"Freedom is something that I can live, feel, see and breathe!"
“The Freedom that I Breathe” is an exhibition by Hong Kong-born, Taiwan-based cross-media artist and curator Missy Hyper (茜利妹), scheduled to open in June 2025 at NGO DEI Gallery in The Hague. This exhibition will showcase a diverse range of media – including visual arts, multimedia installations, and award-winning films – that reflect Missy Hyper’s multifaceted artistic approach.
In her work, Missy Hyper articulates her personal journey from Hong Kong to Taiwan, exploring themes of identity, displacement and resilience. The exhibition seeks to embody the collective yearning of diasporic Hongkongers for democracy and freedom, and resonates with the ongoing struggles of those yearning for political and social change. By weaving her own experiences into broader narratives, Missy Hyper invites viewers to engage deeply with issues of autonomy and self-expression, making this exhibition a poignant reflection on the power of art in times of uncertainty.
